Sleeping glow engine for 5 years

Hello,
This engine was sleeping for nearly 5 years and now it was stored in a high humidty area. Now the propeller is not spinning and looks like stuck and throttle arm is not moving. What is your suggestions? Can it work again? I couldnt uploaded the photos because it is my first post.
Thanks

Sounds like it is just gummed up. Use a heat gun to loosen up the gummed up oil.

I don't have a heat gun, can I heat it in the oven? Tried with hair drier but no luck.

Thanks.

Yes, provided you use sensible temperature settings (max 100 deg) and I think it is safer to discard the propeller afterwards in case the heat affected the plastic.
Wood propellers should be able to handle the heat, but might warp.

I'd pull the back plate off check to see how much corrosion there is then give it a good soak in fuel and try working things free. I wouldn't want to spin it over to much or try and run it if corrosion were evident in the bottom end.

Heat and oil! Remove the back plate is a good thing to do and check the rear bearing! Likely it is rusty (if itīs a ball bearing engine)

It is in the oven right now, I will tell the result... Thanks.

After 30 min 200 degrees celcius heating, now it is freed up and turning. Oiled with some after run oil, now waiting....

Carb is also stuck, throttle arm is not moving, can I also heat that carb in the oven?

Carb is also ok now after oven...

Personally, I use the gas grill. The wife hates when I use the oven, even for cooking!

Max:)

Or a heat gun and some penetrating oil.

Hi!
Get a heat gun and warm the carb, then oil it!

200 degree C is much too hot. It's quite near the critical heat treatment temperature for some Aluminium Alloys. If there's any plastic in the engine it may have been destroyed. 100 degrees C should be sufficient.

Thatīs why it is better to use a heat gun! Much more controllable and precise!

Yes the engine will run again. It just needs to be de-gunked. And a new glow plug

Glow plug (?)

good oil to free up parts.

I have a toaster oven with good temp control to properly heat up an engine for bearing replacement. Many times, you can buy new and better ball bearings from a bearing company for allot less than the engine manufacturer. I used to buy in bulk for my most common sized smaller glow engines.
sometimes when the carb barrel is seized/stuck I apply KROIL brand oil and let it soak, it can also be applied through back plate and glow plug and may even prevent having to disassemble the engine when it has been stored for a very long time. Care must be taken when using KROIL because it is hazardous.
