Muffling a Saito 300

My Saito 300 TDP twin puts out 99db with the stock flex pipes, which is too loud for our field. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to muffle this engine? Thanks.

I dont know how much room you have to work with. What I would do is get a thin ALUM canister,
like what hair mouse comes in, and mount it behind the engine. Run both pipes into it and make an outlet in the
center with thin brass tubing from K&S. If your tight on space, a 6" extension on each pipe made from
silicon or thin flexible natural gas line will make a diff. Have you tried any diff size props? A lot of the noise is from the prop. later daveo

Muffling a Saito 300

Hello; I haved a friend who has/had a big spacewalker on floats with a 300 Saito in it. It was so loud that he would taxi to the far side of the lake before he would takeoff, then fly it far away. It sopoiled his enjoyment of teh plane, he eventually sold it off at a huge loss. I would run the two pipes into a can of some kind and seal the gaps with JB weld, then run a copper or brass pipe out of the can. I have flattened the pipe and drilled holes in the part that sits inside the can. This has worked for me in the past I prefer quiet planes, I don't like to work in a noisy environment so I don't want to punish myself while flying. I hope you find a solution for your problem

Thanks to both of you; I appreciate your thoughts. I think I'll try a different prop and a homemade can muffler.

I should have mentioned before that a three blade prop is a lot quieter. Problem is the spinner and props
are more exspensive. They sure look cool though. later daveo
