Fox 45 throttle response
 
I have a Fox 45 which is a great running engine. Always runs consistently and is very reliable. BUT....the throttle response lags a bit. I have it in a 3D plane and would like better throttle performance. Currently have it running on 15% nitro with a 12.25X3.75 prop. Have had the same results with other combinations. Any ideas?

Sounds as though your bottom end is a little rich yet? If you do adjust the LS, go back and redo the top end. This is important this time of year to get the high speed mixture set to where the engine doesn't quit on you about 1 minute after take-off?

It acts like it...but this one has the one needle carb, so no low end adjustment possible.

Crop, do you have the airbleed screw about half way across the hole or a little more?

Open the air-bleed screw slightly; about 1/8 of a turn at a time and retry to check the response.
An air-bleed screw is certainly not a "no low end adjustment possible" situation.
It is just a different way of doing it.

The OS.65LA has an air-bleed adjustment and it is by far better than the OS.61FX's "real" idle mixture needle.

I have a bushed Fox .40 with the EZ carb that I run in a FF type plane. It's a nice motor!

The EZ carb isn't perfect, but it's way ahead of many of Foxes older TN carbs (no experience with their new TN carb (p/n #2600) that is available from Fox. Word is, it is a major improvement.

Not easy to get a perfect transition from the EZ, but a really acceptable one is certainly attainable.

For what it's worth, I set my HS needle just a click or so RICHER than I ordinarily would for normal flying, and the air bleed so that the hole in the carb is exposed about 50%. Strangely, unlike other air bleeds, the Fox shows rather dramatic changes in idle mixture with only small changes in the air bleed screw location.
