Starting Problems Inverted Moki 2.10
 

I have an inverted Moki 2.10 on a Dave patrick Edge 540and the engine runs great once I get the fire lit but getting the engine started is a real pain. I have only been able to get it started with an electric started w/ 24 volts and even then it takes a lot of spinning to get it running. I am guessing that it is not getting sufficient prime since the engine is inverted, when I take my finger off the carb throat the fuel pours out on the ground instead of going into the cylinder. After spinning with an electric starter it eventually draws enough fuel to start but even then it barely sputter until it catches and then idles smoothly. Once running idle transition and full power are good.

I was thinking of getting a small squirt bottle with a thin hose to stick up into the throttle opening and try priming it that way. I know the warbird guys fly inverted Moki's all the time, so if anyone has any ideas let me know.

When you spin the engine over with the starter....plug up the exhaust
hole (or holes) with your finger(s)....the exhaust pressure will force fuel
into the carb, and since the engine is drawing vacuum....into the engine.

It will fire up in about 2-3 seconds....;)

Yep, as Dave states! The Moki needs to be good and wet(it's a big engine!!!). My 1.8 was mounted sideways and it needed a large prime before it would start.

Problem solved! I installed a Perry pump VP-30 (took about 20 min) primed the engine slapped the prop three times with a chicken stick and it fired right up idled nicely too.
