I've got a new O.S. LA 46. I'm having some problems starting it and as I'm new to the hobbie..I'm not sure how to fix. I prime once. Then I hook up glow heater. Then I attatch starter. It turns for a sec.. then makes a snapping noise. then the whole spinner falls off because the prop nut loosens up..probably because of the snapping noise. Not sure what it is...is the engine tring to start in reverse??? Any help with this would be much appreciated!!!!! The plane is done..from KIT.. can't get the friggin engine to start AHHHHHH.....

Get your instructor. He'll help u get it strted

Does anyone besides this guy have any USEFULL information for me??? I'll get an instructor only AFTER I can get the engine started. Looks pretty silly for me if I can't even break in the engine.

Ok i had the same problem when i first started this hobby.

Ok what i did to cure this was as follows.. Sounds like your engine is flooded

1) Remove the glow plug from the engine...... take it off completely (dont loose the washer)
2) Use the starter to turn the engine, watch your eyes as this will blow any fuel out of the engine, or just turn the plane on its side and let it drip out of the exhaust.
3) Reconnect the glow plug.
4) If your using an electric starter, thiers not much point in primming the engine as an electric starter will pull the fuel through easily by itself.
5) Attach the glow plug heater.
5) Put starter on nose cone and hold tight and start it, keep it held on tight untill the engine fires.
6) If it still wont start check your glow plug is fully charged as well as your electric starter.
7) Also try putting your finger over the hole on the exausht when starting, this sometimes works for me.

The engine should get easier to start once its run it, hope thats some help and good luck.................
Never give up this is a great hobby and a very addictive one, and RC Universe it probably the best thing youve done so far, ALOT of ppl here are full of excellent advice that will be able to help you.

Your engine is flooded.
Follow Dragon's advice.
Make sure that when you fill your tank, that the fuel doesn't run into the carb or into the muffler.

Yep, the engine is flooded. You are seeing either a backfire or a hydrolic lock.

Get an instructor ASAP. Part of the instructors job is to teach you how to make the engines run well. I've had several students show up with out having a clue how to start their engine, and that's fine. In fact, I almost prefer it, less chance of them damaging the engine or hurting themselves or someone else.

If you are going to start the engine yourself, make sure the engine is well secured. If it's in the plane, that means fixing the plane with a tie-down of some sort so it can't roll forwards. If you're using a bench mount, make sure it's up to the job.

also tighten that propnut...alot.[:@] you can't hurt it by puttin the wrench to it.:)

how many turns is the needle out crank it the first time when you get the fuel out all the way in that way you will be sure theres no fuel in it anywere turn it 1and1/2 turns out dont prime it crank it to it starts

you are useing a prop arnet you know its a weird think to ask but it been done before

GET AN INSTRUCTOR to help you. The fact that you can't get it started means that you probably don't know how to properly tune the engine either-assuming you could get it running. It doesn't much to fry an engine from overheating due to a too lean fuel mixture.

Swallow your pride and get help from a club local. You'll end up saving a lot of money and learning so many useful tips that you can't learn from reading. I've seen too many crashes from newbies who didn't want someone to show them the basics. This hobby is expensive enough and any tip/help to prolong your investment should be welcome.
