Glow plug on Evolution .46
 

I have an Evolution .46 that has about 50 flights on it and it has recently started going dead-stick on me. I believe that my needles are adjusted properly and the problem continues. It has been suggested to me that the glow plug is bad. The user manual for the engine calls for a HAN3006 glow plug. My locale hobby shop does not carry this. Does anyone know if there is a suitable O.S. brand replacement?

Mark,

If you are using 0-10% nitromethane, you should be using a warm plug, like the OS No.8, Enya #3, MVVS #3301 and others. If you are using a higher percentage of nitro; 15% and more, you should use a colder plug, like the OS A3, for example.

After a period, some plug elements become scaled, and do not respond as well to the the methanol, so they don't "keep the fire burning" inside the engine, as well as before.
Also, if your Evo still has the limiters on the needles, and a piece of free dirt has lodged itself between a needle and its seat, it possibly cannot be washed away with the limited needle movement.

It is more likely the glow plug, however.

I had a similar problem until I put an O.S. type F in mine. The H9 plug mine came with had an extended , un-threaded end, like a 4-stroke plug...

An OS 8 or OS 3 plug will work fine for your application. An OS F plug is a 4 stroke plug and is a very HOT plug and may cause detonation and tuning issues if used with 15% nitro in a 2 stroke engine.

The plug that came in mine was a H9 Super plug, and looks exactly like a 4 stroke plug. Mine's mounted inverted, and my theory is the extended reach helps keep the plug from acting like a sump and getting squelched...I use 10% Powermaster, and no problems so far. A #8 or A3 probably would work just as well though, if mounted upright...
