Yay! i just got meself a new tt pro46 engine :D
I ran it the other day for about 1/2 a tank. It started about 4th flick and then i ran it rich at about 1/2 throttle with bursts up to full throttle. Is this all fine? Am i doing anything wrong? wot else do i need to do to run it in good and propper? thanks. blythe |

RE: ttpro46 running in
Oh boy...you opened a can of worms. There are as many opinions about brake'n in an engine as there are a.......opps almost did it:D Anyway I will tell you how I would do it... FOR ABC not ringed engines!
15% nitro at least 18% oil with at least a 20% castor base 10 x 6 APC prop #8 OS glow plug Tune engine at full throttle until a "rich" two stroke mixture is obtained...This will become the base mixture... Oscillate mixture between the "base rich" two stroke and "leaner" (not peak rpm just yet) for one tank full. If after one tank full a reliable idle and transition is achieved (if not repeat and adjust) I will then fly engine at a "slightly rich" two stroke and incrementally lean mixture a bit each successive flight to the desired fuel ratio and power output is optimized being careful not to allow a LEAN run. The goal is to try achieve a realistic normal engine operating temperature. Too cool of a break in and engine will not maintaian the proper piston to cylinder liner seal when at full operating temps and too hot will damage and wear engine. Allow engine to cool completely between runs until broken in. I try to fly the engine as soon as possible to ensure adequate cooling and real world working conditions. After a handful of flights I will load the engine with more prop if desired. BTW flame suit on fire away!;) |

Pooba,
Read this thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_70.../tm.htm#704159 . Never blindly follow the manufacturers' manuals. They are often wrong, misleading, unclear, or mis-written. |
