Any thoughts on MECOA?

Howdy all.
I am a proud owner of TT and OS engines, but this "$20 trade in offer" from MECOA has me wondering....

I'm thinking about putting 2 engines on a Twinstar either a pair of .28 or .32's. Are these MECOA engines reliable?

Or should I just blow the $$ and put a pair of TT 36 PROs on?

The MECOA .32 is a real nice little engine. You will like it. It is very small physically.

The MECOA .32 is a LEO engine made in China. They are also sold a MEGATEK engines by America's Hobby Center. Or you can buy LEO's from www.justengines.unseen.org.

There is a .37 LEO that is in the same case as the .32 and it is a real screamer. It will outshine your TT 36. Especially with a bigger carb on it. Read all about it on the web site above. Megatech also sells the .37 but MECOA does not. They only have the 32.

If you put two 37's on that Twin star, you better be worried about the covering peeling off on wide open throttle. Two LA40's will cause a Twin Star to peel the covering and the LEO .37 has a lot more power than a LA40.

To answer the other part of your question, the MECOA's have been reliable. But in the past there have been Mecoa engines made by other companies beside LEO. Some of them were made in the USA by MECOA themselves. As a comparison, the MECOA 46 is not as powerful as a OS46FX or the TT PRO 46 but is a easy starting reliable engine.

enjoy

Leo

I have a Leo .28 and was VERY impressed about how well it ran.

I just recently put two GMS .32s on my Twinstar and the combo is AWESOME. Much better performance than 2 LA .40s. You can get these engines pretty cheap too!

MECOA also sells GMS engines. Will they give you a trade in price on one of those? If so, that's what I'd buy.

This year I picked up a GMS .47 from the MECOA booth at Toledo for $69($79?). Anyway, it was considerably cheaper, like half as much as my Webra GT .50, but it preforms on the same level. I think GMS engines are about the best bang for the buck out there!

Well, in the past you could trade in an old engine on a GMS as well as a MECOA. It didn't matter. But I don't know about now. Actually where you do the trade in is a different place than the MECOA factory. But it should be listed on the MECOA site.

You learn all this by working the forums on RCUNIVERSE!

Good luck

actually if i read the site right, they will offer you a trade on ANYTHING they carry... just send them the stuff anf a letter of what you want and they'll either oblige or make an offer.

Just curious, wondering what Randy does with all that trade-in junk?

Well Randy Linsolato is president of MECCA also and I'm sure that he gets a fair share of old collectable motors in and if not complete then parts for them. If nothing else he gets metal to melt and old motors off the market and not palmed on to some unsuspecting buyer as a real runner. We all have had some experience in that area.

My apologies to whomever moderates this forum. My post was CLEARLY against the rules...this one definitely deserved to be zapped. Right or wrong, it was "bashing a company", and that's against the rules, for good reason.
