Cracked Case?

1 Attachment(s)
a couple weeks ago i burried my saito .72...i cleaned it all off and it runs fine, just when i take the glow igniter off it wont idle very long. I also notice some "goo" seaping out along the engine from behind the cam gear housing. Would a crack in the case cause it to run funny? seems like its getting too much air. I'm going to replace the glow plug first, as its the original and is almost 3yrs old.

thanks

Bob:

To start with, you are fortunate in having soft dirt to hit. Around here the crankshaft would be peeking out the back of the case.

A crack where you suppose could be the source of your leakage, but a crack could also be an indication of a bend in the case, which could be the cause of your poor running.

The FA-72 has a relatively small case, much more easily damaged than the very similar FA-80.

You can poull the cylinder and the cam housing, check for parallel between the cylinder and cam cover seating surfaces. If they are out of true just buy a new case and enjoy the engine.

Even if it is just cracked you should replace it. The crack could grow at any time. leading to even more fun.

Bill.
