reverse rotation engine

Does any one know where to find a reverse rotation engine? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

Any reed valve glow engine will run either way.

Ryan:

Be more specific. What size do you want? Two stroke or four stroke?

Several manufacturers supply reverse rotation cranks for their front intake engines, and if the engine in question has a removeable front cover the cover can be turned to reverse the engine.

Enya four stroke engines can be set up to run either direction without buying any parts at all, and there are cams easily available to reverse most Saito engines.

So. Tell us what you want, we can go from there.

Bill.

RE: reverse rotation engine

Happily, the Enya two-strokes with a separate front housing will run beautifully in reverse as well. Remove the housing and rotate ninety degrees to the right (when looking from the backplate of the engine):- ie., in the same direction as the standard crankshaft rotation. Your carburettor will now be a little lower, and the engine will look weird, but it's ready to roll.
If you still wish to have "forward" thrust, you'll need a "pusher" propeller.

If you intend to use this revised rotation to provide "pusher" thrust with a normal propeller, make sure the engine has at least one ball-bearing to support the crankshaft, otherwise the engine won't last long; the Enya car motors are great for this type of installation, as they have two ball bearings and a nice big cylinder head heatsink to compensate for the lack of backdraught in a pusher installation.[sm=sunsmiley.gif]

You forgot that the UK's LASER single-jug four strokers can be reversed the same way...!

Dear Bill Robison:

The PIPE here again...I've seen the Enya reversing instructions before (I do have a 60-4C with those instructions in its manual)...but you MIGHT have forgotten, since the Laser single cylinder four strokers have the SAME sort of cam drive setup...

...that THEY can be reversed in the very same way???

The UK-based company at http://www.laserengines.com/ even told me this themselves not too long ago...so, as long as the overall valve timing for BOTH valves is already set up to allow this (the Laser people seemed to indicate this in their message back to me)...most, if not ALL of both the Laser AND Enya four strokers can have this done to them!

A Flair quarter scale Tiger Moth with a reversed Laser 150S would be just TOO tempting to resist...a British scale subject aircraft, which in full scale HAS a clockwise-spinning prop...and with the model powered with a British Laser 150S four stroke engine, with re-timed camshafts to get IT spinning clockwise as well... [sm=biggrin.gif]http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/...iggrinflip.gifhttp://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/...iggthumpup.gif !!!

Just thought I'd mention it...Laser AND Enya single cylinder four strokers can be run in reverse, with NO additional parts needed, just by re-timing of the camshafts !!!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE! ;)

Dave:

As you said, I knew about the Enya.

Never having any contact with the Laser engines beyond seeing pictures I did not know they had the double shafts like Enya.

You have contributed to my knowledge base.

Thank you.

Bill.

Just to confirm guys, so far as my contribution was concerned, I was talking strictly about the TWO-strokes. I have no knowledge of the reversability of any of the four-strokes mentioned.

one can buy a Fox 2-cycle reverse rotate engine directly from fox, assembled and tested (.25 to .74 engines) .. at 877-369-3883

Would recommend MVVS to you for this job. I had counter rotating MVVS's on my Twin.
Very nice! They have a counter rotating crank available or you can buy them setup for CR! Extremely good runners! You can also set the cylinders up so the mufflers are configured properly.

what size do you require, and what is the aircraft / application ??

Hi!
All MVVS 2,0-15cc engines could be ordered with a rewersed axel.

Not only reed valve glow engine, The sideported engine will run in both way too.:)

I has the Eta 15 diesel with disc valve, it has two holes for crankpin at disc valve, can run reverse rotation if use other hole for crankpin..

My ETA Elite is the only diesel I've ever owned that gives a "bump" like a glow just by turning over the prop :)

The old drum valve OS 80H (and I presume the 60H) has a reverse rotation slot in the drum, thoughtfully marked R so you know which slot to use.

You can also run a K & B 40 reverse rotation, either by buying a reverse-rotation crankshaft, or by rotating the front housing 90 degrees counter-clockwise when viewed from the engine front.

Hey guys thanks for the info on other brands that run clockwise.

Nice thing about fox is that they will make it for u and test it. I just bought a fox .45bb clockler for $110 (free ship over $100). Clockwise cost $105.

on the .60's on up the cylinder exhaust port can also be rotated (before breakin) and they will build it for u rotated and tested for no additional charge.

regards ...
