YS63 engine vibrates plane at idle
The tail of the plane vibrates at idle. Is this normal? The thing runs awesome and I only had to adjust the high end. The shaking goes away at higher RPM's. Could it be that my low end needs tweeking as in the idle is rough so it's rich? I'd hate to ruin a great running engine by screwing up the low end. The transition is good too.

The torque pulses on the 63 are pretty strong. A smooth idle will help. I doubt that adjusting the idle mixture will ruin an engine, you can always put it back to it's "pre-ruined" setting.

It is normal if the shakes are minor...
One time when I did not have an OS-F (recommended highly in the YS-63) I used an OS-8 (I think?) and it ran very rough! What plug you runnin'? Also, make sure your prop is balanced-(probably not the problem but contributes-) Yesterday I had the idle down to about 1850 just for kicks and ran a 12x7 @ 11.6K :D |

Joe;
Use the OS-F or YS plug. Also the motor tends to be a little rough at the low end until its completely broken in. Is your transition instantanious? You may need to slightly lean the low and mid range. Also what prop are you using? What spinner if any? And lasat but not least, what plane? Profiles tend to attenuate the vibration. |

Check your spinner balance (if running one) my great plains alum spinner
was way off in balance on my YS53 4 strk when balanced it helped, if out its less noticeable at high speed |
RE: YS63 engine vibrates plane at idle
Try running a few tanks thru it, then setting the idle mixture. I bet you will be amazed at how much smoother it can be. If I had no OS F or YS plug, the Enya #3 would be what I would run.
What fuel are you running?? A little nitro never hurt the idle.. |

That's true, I should run it for a while and then make adjustments since the engine runs great right now. I just noticed the plane shake at low RPMS. A guy in this forum said he tried all the plugs and thought the Enya worked the best so that's why I got that one. I could buy an F type next time I'm at the LHS and try it out. I'm running WildCat 30% 18% and I add Klotz synthetic oil to bring up the lube content to 20%. |

RE: YS63 engine vibrates plane at idle
Because its a small power house, the pulse is more noticeable at low rpm. All the suggestions above are to make it a little smoother. Breakin and adjustment of the low and midrange will help. The OS plug has a bit tougher element and is preferred because of its longivity and glow properties. Good luck and keep us updated!
