Rossi RC80 : anyone know this engine?
I bought a plane which had a brand new Rossi RC 80 in it. I converted the Plane to electric, and discovered that the glow engine I removed has a header for a tuned pipe and also inflight mixture control. I have never seen this. I see some info on the RC 60 but none on the 80. Anyone know what fuel this likes (nitro / oil)... was it typically used in pattern appications? (Rossi RC 80)
thx! Tim |
RE: Rossi RC80 : anyone know this engine?
Rossi made a few 80's. I sold one for a buddy not long ago. I'd run 5-10% nitro and 18% oil or so. They wouldn't have been legal for pattern back in the day...probably why they are not often seen.

This has the slide carb and is stamped RC 80 but the casting says Rossi 60. Go figure. It seems like an odd ball. Thx for the nitro tip.

HHhmmm...Haven't seen a Rossi slide carb on an airplane engine. And yes, Rossi used the same case for lots of engines. The .61, .65, and .81 DF engineas are all .61 case.
Any chance of getting a pic?? |

Pics, Please!!
The description you gave sounds like a Picco, with the slide valve carb and "RC 80" stamped on the side. RR |
RE: Rossi RC80 : anyone know this engine?
My bad.... it IS A PICCO RC80. Man the compression on this is just unreal. My starter will not turn this over. I have to chicken stick it ;-)

RE: Rossi RC80 : anyone know this engine?
I have the same engine I got when I bought an old "SUPRAFLY" pattern plane (bought it for the Futaba 9VAP radio that came with it!). I wouldn't know about the compression because when I tried to fuel it and hit the starter, it spurted raw fuel from around the glow plug. I want to know where in the heck I can get another head for this thing! It seems to be an awesome engine.
