Engine Vintage
Got a Kaydet MKII today for next to nuttin. Plane airworthy, radio not, needs some minor stuff. Engine on plane is an "OS MAX-S" .35
Plain bearing, air bleed carb, anybody give me an idea how old this monster is? It's free, and rust free, carb is moving and clear, even the glow plug still works. Will try and run on test stand in a day or two. Now, the AM radio receiver and servos..... Andy |

The RC version was first made in 1964 and it's a bushed crank, baffled cast iron piston engine so it needs 25% all castor fuel for long life. They're not terribly powerful but they're very reliable so long as you keep feeding the castor to them. With less oil than this the big end of the rod will wear out before anything else does.

Agree with Downunder especially about the rod. They wear out almost immediately with low oil fuelsand these rods are hard to find. One consolation is that the OS 30 uese the same rod so you can buy these motors cheaply on the bay just for the rod. Not practical but if you happen to like the motor.
Really the point is that any of the older plain bushing motors really do need a castor diet to live. dennis |

Given adequate castor however, they will outlast that battery selling rabbit.
