Saito .56 without lock nut

I have the above mentioned engine installed in a FW 190. I'm using a tru-turn aluminum spinner, and there's no way I can put a prop nut on, and the tru-turn adapter. I can get maybee two turns on the adapter, definetly not enough to lock the prop nut. So if I keep an eye on it, will I be OK with just the adapter? Should I use locktite? TIA,

Andy

RE: Saito .56 without lock nut

Saito Engines vary in crankshaft thread length between different models and different years made. I have aquired saitos that just had the adapter assembly on them and would have to assume that they had been running them without the locknut assembly? On some engines, the crank threads are too long for just the adapter and others, the adapter is all there is room for.

I don't see why you couldn't get away with just the adapter assembly? Just make sure it's tight.

Enjoy,

Jim

I've heard horror stories about the prop nut coming loose if the engine kicks, and that you should always run the locknut. I don't see where that's going to be an issue with a 12 inch prop, because 2 strokes kick back too. Maybe a big four stroke (100 or larger) turning a 16+ inch prop.

Hi!
There must be a missunderstanding about always using lock-nuts on a fourstroke engine...They are not necessary if you are setting your engine right! And using locktite is not necessary either.

My .56 has never had the double nuts on it, my Saito 150 always.
