Engine Size

Had a serious crash of my Tiger 2(not 60 size), so got a fuse kit and overlayed where the new wood met the old, right about mid plane. Extra epoxy, double wood, and all this reinforcing the plane looked the same after recovering, but gained substantial weight. Goldberg suggests 4C from .40 to .50, but I have a Saito 56 and need more HP. Looking at a Saito 80 to pull the weight. Is that too much engine for the frame? It's a 40 size kit.

Just the facts

What is the new weight of the plane, the wing area, and the weight of the 80? From here we can figure the wing loading and see if you need the new engine and what the loading will be with it. Will you have to add any weight to get the CG right if you make the swap_bob

Saito stuff

George, the Saito .72 might be a better choice, it's a little lighter than the .80 and will mount in the same holes as the .56. It will turn a 12x8 or 13x6.

Engine change

Boy! Am I glad I posted this question. The plane with the 56 needed 4 OZ of weight in the nose to balance correctly. Running a heavier engine, I can remove the lead and gain the power. Don't need the 80 after all. Thanks to you guys, I learned the 72 will bolt in the same place. In contrast, I can't just deal with moving one motor mount over to fit the 80, as the engine would then be operating off the centerline. Not good. Using the 72, wont have to center the engine, which means I don't have to pull the hatch and modify from there. Now to find a 72 I can afford.
Thanks for the rapid response. Oh yeah, the 80 has 1.3HP and the 72 has 1.2HP, but less weight.
