K&B engine quality?

How are the K&B engines?
I'm looking at getting a K&B .48, or maybe an OS 50.

Any input?

Not a toss-up at all. If you want to go fast, the K&B 48 is the better choice. It's not happy swinging a large prop. If you have an application wanting torque more than speed stay with K&B, but get either the Sportster for highest torque, or the model 4070 for an engine in between the characteristics of the other two.

If you just like the OS style, save a bunch of money and get the Magnum XLS 52. A better engine than the OS also. The Magnum is a genuine ABC engine, the OS uses the cheaper nickel plating. And charges 60% more for it, too.

What plane you gonna use this on? For torque the Irvine-53 is awesome...

I have to admit Bill, my OS-50SX is great runner, and it is ringed... I would never pay full price for one (got mine in a trade-) but it has handled a 13x4Z to a 10x8 APC :D flip starts and has not dies yet!

I also have a K&B-Screamin' 48 and it does scream--- great engine!

Razor:

My newest OS is a 46 FX, it has been a great disappointment to me.

I got it wanting to see just how long it would run without peeling the liner. About three years old now, and still running fine.

I wanted it to blow up and the da**ed thing just keeps running. As I said. A disappointment.

I already have the replacement liner and piston, real ABC, but it just wont peel the nickel. Drat.

Haw.

Try the K&B twist instead. It out powers all the engines mentioned, is in the same weight class as these engines and costs less. Besides you can use it on your next .60 size plane and still out power its competition.

Thanks for the input.
I want to put it on my Twist so it's able to pull out of a hover with authority, or at least be able to pull out without my fingers crossed.

How appropriate, a Twist head on a Twist.
