Rossi 45 muffler

I just bought a used plane that has a Rossi 45 (black head) and stock muffler. The muffler...well...doesn't. Its too loud for our field. I am going to try and modify it, but I wondered if anybody has used another muffler on this engine. I have no idea what might fit. TIA.

Rossi 45 muffler

I also fly the Rossi 45 rear exhaust Powerhouse from Morris and you are right about the noise. My muffler snaps on over a elastomer o-ring. I believe a replacement is not possible unless you make one yourself from a Rossi connection. I fly the ENYA 50CX, Webra 50 Speed, MVVS 49, and this Rossi and our field operations person said they are all to noisey. All have baffle-less mufflers.

Rossi Muffler

I have the Rossi .45 on my Hanger 9 Pizazz, and I am lucky to fly at a field out with the cows! No one complains. :p The Rossi and muffler are a little loud, I thought about changing it, but I kind of enjoy the sound now! :D

R.45 silencers

Macs Products produce a muffler that should meet your requirements. It is a one piece bolt on unit.

Muffler #6400
Adapter #6608

Rossi also offers a bolt on muffler that is very quiet, though not the most durable. The outer shell is crimped on and will vibrate loose with use. Some have had the joint welded after which the muffler seems to hold up.

Macs and Rossi both produce headers and muffled tuned pipes if you are looking to maximize the R.45's power. The Macs Quiet Pipe is the lowest noise version.

jett-stream

Jett Engineering offers the Jett-Stream tuned muffler with an adapter for use on the Rossi side exhaust engines. These work better than the stock rossi mufflers, bolt-on installation, plus they are quieter.

Take a look at jettengineering.com for details.

Rossi 45 muffler

When you say bolt-on do you mean a metal strap that wraps around the engine and bolts to the muffler? The Rossi 45 RE has no bolt holes or taps for bolts. It is a circular outlet with a o-ring in a groove. I E-mailed MAC's and PS last year but never got a response. I fly my Morris Fun Design/Rossi RE on week days when a few of the more noise tolerant retirees are the only people at the field plus the field is way less crowded and you can do the goofy stuff right over the middle of the run way. Hogging up the "zone" is really what gets flyers dander up on the weekends and not the noise.

My post refered to a muffler solution for the Rossi side exhaust engines.

As for the Rear exhaust engine...

RE options are limited to a standard header/pipe type of setup. Jett used this type of pipe setup for the FIRE engines, but no spring is required... the header/pipe combination is welded, and just a solid pipe mount is required.

You may be able to use Jett's RE tuned muffler. This depends on the exhaust diameter. Pictured here (partially) on the Fan-Jett 50. Worth dropping Dub an email with a question.

I hope this is helpful.

R45 RE

Ramcharger,
Rossi does offer a header and pipe for your engine.

Header #14025
Pipe #06033

These pieces work well, and are easy to tune. The header slides within the pipe like a trombone, making tuning simple and quick.
