need help picking out Engine (4stroke)
 

Going in a Funtana .40. Can't decide between these:

Saito .82 (leaning twards)
Saito .91s (cheaper than the .82)
Enya .80 (heard enya was good and very reliable)
YS .63 (good motor but needs 30% nitro to run well)
OS .70 (user friendly and good reputation)

Which one would you choose?????

If this is your first 3D plane then you must always have in mind that a mishap could happen at any time, including a total loss (i hope it never happens though). For this reason i would install engine and radio equipment that are good but also not very expensive.

The OS FL 70 will be fine, any other OS 4 stroke will cost significantly more and you will not actually need it.

If you decide to go for a Saito , then the 82 is the way to go , though some may say that it is "too much of an engine" for the Funtana 40. If you are experienced with 4 strokes and a compitent flier in general, use the Saito. If you are just starting out in 3D flying do not install an expensive Saito, go for the OS FL 70.

If money is no issue then go for the Saito 82, you will not regret it. Its better than an OS70. I had a Funtana too and flew is with a Saito 72, its enough for hard sport flying but not really for hard 3D. Trust me the Saito is user friendly. As long as you are patient almost all engines are user friendly.

Stay clear of the Saito 91 as I think the crankcase if larger and you will need to work on the Funtana's engine mounting. Stay with the 70/72/82 ...

SAITO IS THE BEST 4-STROKE MONEY CAN BUY..........PERIOD! THE NEW OS 4-STOKES COME WITH A PLASTIC REAR CASE PLATE! I am really disappionted with the OS as the continue to "cheapen" their product as they have a name! ALSO THEY CONTINUE TO USE "PHILLIPS HEAD" SCREWS THAT OVER TIME STRIP OUT! The Surpass is so OVERATED; It's not funny! Yes it it less money; this is proof you get what you apy for! Also the Saito can take a BEATING where the Saito cant and Saito parts are as Plentifull as the OS!

YS is better and Laser 4 C engines are amazing! Hahahaaa ... anyone tried the Laser engines from UK? I hear they are amazing in terms of manufacturing. Even lighter than OS and possibly a Saito. The liner has some wicked coating like that in a Ferrari.

The Saito 82 is the lightest of the mentioned engines. It is also the most powerful if you believe the literature from the manufacturers. They even put a plastic rear cover on the 82 to save weight. The Saito 82 and the Funtana S 40 make a very good combination swinging an APC 16-4 prop.

Wrong. The YS .63 will run well on 15% nitro. Read the thread on "Why Use 20/20 in YS Engines".

tIANci, I have a Laser 180 V twin, a 1992 model, It runs like a champ on 5% nitro, Fox Miracle plugs and turns a 16x8 three blade at precisely 8,000 rpm and sounds sooo beautiful. It is a picture of machining excellence.

I have been flying my twist with a 46fx and a Tower muffler for a while. This is my first 4 stroke though. Will the Saito be easy for me to set up?

There are volumes of info on these pages about setting one up, it's fairly easy.
