HELP!!! Engine Mount for Saito 150?

HELP!!!

I ordered a Dave Brown engine mount 120F, is said it would fit a Saito 120 4C, the 150 has the mounting size, but the mount is too small!!!

Which mount do I need? I am needing the mount the engine to the firewall to continue building my DF Chippie!

Any idea on want mount would work good for this engine?

Thanks

The Dubro 150 sized soft mount will work if you want to go that route.

120FS-1024 Mount?

Is that the 120FS-1024 mount? I have one of these and the Saito 150 is much to wide to fit. Did you have to cut the mount?

Thanks for the reply?

HELP!!! Engine Mount for Saito 150?

they only make one 120 fs mount... right...so i guess that's the one !

Don't be afraid to spread the beams a little !!

THANKS!!!

Well, It fits like a glove! Thanks, I would have never thought to spread out the arms.

I can move forward on building the Chippie!!!

Just got done adding some re-enforcements to the fuselage. Should hold up to the Saito 150 alot better!

Thanks, Again outssider

Sheet metal screws are too soft and the heads will pop off in the long term

Drill and tap the holes for machine screws

RE: HELP!!! Engine Mount for Saito 150?

I found on the black fiber engine mounts if you use the correct tap size drill, drill it out then use a SOCKET HEAD HEX SCREW driven with a drill you can
drill the screw into the mount. Grind a small taper on the bolt screw before you start. Then be quick running it in and quickly reverse to run it completely out. There will be heat generated and the thread will be hot enough to mold around the screw. Do this several times until you are satisfied that you can hand screw the screw into the mount. I have never had one come loose as the mount acts like a locltite device. If you are concern of comming lose you can through drill before you power drive the screw. Then you can also put a nut on the back side.

Given you are working a 1.5 you might want the nut. DON'T use 4x40,, 6x32 minimum.

RE: HELP!!! Engine Mount for Saito 150?

I tap the holes and use the tap in a V/S drill

The plastic holds onto the threads. even a sheet metal screw will not vibrate out.

Try a sheet metal screw in wood and it will back out faster than you can shut the engine off

My socket head screw is a 6x32 not a sheetmetal socket head.

You will have to make your own choice.

For big engines I never use anything that isn't retained by a locking nut and or locktite. This means only machine screws on my plane.

Ask yourself one question. How confident am I that this won't come out and have I ever seen a screw of this type come out before. If so Why?
