Os 46 Will Only Start With Starter
 

I have an OS 46 FX & itwill only start with a starter .

It will never start with a Flick , unlike other engines .

What could be the possible reason , & what is the remedy .

Bad plug, bad fuel, bad settings, worn out...
 

The possible reasons are many.

Is this a recent development, or was it this way since new?

Did you try a new plug? (try an OS-8)

Are you using nitro in your fuel? (they really like 5-10%)

Have you overheated it?

Does it have good compression?

When primed, and glow is heated... if you firmly grasp the prop in your hand, and
slowly pull it through compression, can you feel the "kick"?
If so, it should flip-start. If not, it's probably a bad plug, bad fuel, or in need of overhaul.

Well I use a 5 % Nitro fuel & regularly change the Glow Plug.

Yes I use the OS 8 # Plug .

How woudl u check the compression of the engine & what's need to be changed for that .

I guess it's time I sent it for over haulingthe engine .

You haven't mentioned whether this engine is relatively new or very used. Good compression means that if you try to turn over the engine without a prop it should be difficult. If it turns easily and only has a mild hesitation during the power stroke then the engine is tired and needs an overhaul.

If the engine is of the earlier design, they had problems with chrome liners pealing -- this robs the engine of compression.

This engine thrives on all FAI fuels. My personal preference has been 15% Wildcat.

Finally, my glow plug recommendation is an OS #3 -- have seen that plug solve many problems with relatively new OS FX .46s.
