I dropped my Engine! Help??

I had my brand new O.S. FS 91 Surpass just mounted on my new plane and my plane got knocked off my bench and dropped right smack on the prop shaft. I have a concrete floor so it hit pretty hard. I cannot turn the engine over. I am not sure what to do at this point. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

if you cant turn the shaft over then it looks like you will have to send it in for repairs...bring it to the hobby shop where you bought it and see what they what they have to say about it

you probably shoved the crankshaft into it's bearings. see what your hobby shop has to say but you can probably take the crank out and re-insert it.

If it is reasonably new get out the book for it, find the address for "Hobby Services" and send it in. An engine of that valve is not worth making a mistake and doing a backyard repair that you will regret later. If in doubt, ask the guys in the engines forum what to do, they will also have the address to send it in too. [8D]

Just a thought - You did not say whether you had fitted a prop or not. If a prop was not fitted try fitting one and fully tightenening up the prop nut. This will pull the shaft back through the bearing until it seats and the shaft frees.

I would have thought an OS crank would have survived a small drop like that - even on concrete...

Good luck with it.

I had an OS .91 on the nose of my plane......nose dived and it won't pull out....went into the ground on the nose. This was during the summer when the ground was hard....punched a big hole in the mud.......plane destroyed.....engine still works fine...just cleaned it out from the grime...placed on another plane...first flip, start...and still flying.

Hello; I did a similar thing with my good ol' Saito 45, it wouldn't turn either. I took off the back cover and used a wood dowel to smack the crank centre forward. That took the side thrust off the connecting rod and solved teh problem. I have used that engine for years since with no problems at all. What happened was the spinner slipped allowing the crank to slide back until it couldn't go any farther without breaking the connecting rod or forcing the crank through the back cover. I see guys advising you to send it in and get it fixed, I guess that's good advice for a new engine, but my engine is ancient, and at least 12 years out of warantee.

I had the very EXACT same thing happen to me, same result, could not turn the engine over. It too was an O.S. Sent it back to Hobby Services, came back repaired, no charge. Bearings
Send it back, they will likely fix it NC

Tried to remove back cover and the crankscaft rotating free without back cover?

If yes, move crankshaft forward same method as you replacing ballbearing in the engine ,but not dismantle parts, move crankshaft only and move frontbearing at right place.

But if you has warranty at the engine, send to hobbyshop for repair.

You guys were dead on. I popped off the back plate and the crankshaft was jammed up against it. I have never even started so I will send it in to Hobby Services.

Thanks.

Hi!
Why send it in for service when all you have to do is to mount a prop and tighten it hard!!!!
The crank was pushed back when the engine hit the floor....Now all you have to do is pull it forward by mounting a propeller...simple as that!

Regards!
