Engine recommendations (40 sized)
 

OK,

So it seems that my OS 40FX which has provided me with adequate power for over a year is dying. Or at least, it doesn't have the necessary power for my Magic Extra 300 to do 3D. I'm running a 11x4 prop on it. It does not have enough power to 3D. It takes really a long take off.

I thought of upgrading to a SuperTigre 51 or a Magnum 53 engine. Those engines should have enough kick. I could also go OS, but it's expensive, and I would steer away from it.

I'm looking for an engine with power, people have recommended the GMS 47, I've seen it in action and it really has a lot of power. The bad thing is, it isn't long lasting... after a while air leaks develop. Four strokes are too expensive despite their advantages.

Can someone recommend me an engine?

The Thunder Tiger-46 PRO. is a great engine--- consequently, any of the engines on the market today should last longer than a year- you running lean?

What fuel do you use?

Tiger Shark .56 for less than 60 bucks will serve you nicely. I'm using this engine to replace my .40 FX that won't hover a spad of mine either.

Very short life[X(]... Hmm [sm=surprised.gif]used the engine very much after many hours?

If very short life, may be you ran the engine in leaned fuelmixture therefore lack of enough lubricating in the moving engine parts.

Actually, it doesn't have the kick for 3Ding. It's not really dying... but the compression is funny. Sometimes it's quite stiff, sometimes there is no resistance at all! [:@]

Best .40-.46 I've found is the K&B.61. Lots more power at about the same weight. I swing a 12X6 MAS and my SST .40, which is no lightweight, has unlimited vertical.

They are not worth fixing. It would cost more than to replace it

Thunder Tiger 46 because of great idle, transition, has great horsepower, great price, topend, reliable, and last forever. I have the OS FX 46 and Thunder Tiger 46Pro and the Thunder Tiger has the edge. However, a Tower Hobbies muffler is needed to wake both engines up. If you don't want to caugh up the $15 or so at least remove the muffler baffle and don't forget to Locktite the heck out of the screw and nut that runs through the muffler and screws that go through engine.

Right. The Thunder Tiger 46. One of my flight mates has that engine, it seems to be the OS's competitor.

I'm currently considering a MVVS .49, though.

Take a look at Super Tigers at Tower. .40 for $50 or .51 for $80. Both share the same case, the .51 is slightly lighter than the .40.
