Looks like a Cox .049 to me.

It's a Cox Babe-Bee .049. Extremely common 1/2A class engine. I think they are still in production by Estes in Colorado. If the tank has the words "Thimble Drome' on it, then it is a pretty early model. The words were dropped later, can't say exactly when.

kdheath, it does'nt have "Thimble Drome' on its tanks.... when you look at the rear theres only MADE IN USA no brand name or model on it.... so this is an old engine..... i wonder if this still fires up...

Any idea how could i control the throttle of this type of engine?

I has some Cox engines. .:D Can not control the trottle, fixed full trottle only. The Cox Queen Bee has carburator with trottle and without fueltank.

The Cox engines need 20% castor oil only and not other oil and Nitro between 15%-25% in fuel.

Hi!
An exhaust throttle control was available for the Cox Babe Bee and other 0,8cc engines.
I had some Cox cars (VW and Dune Buggy) powered by Babe Bee engines where the exhaust throttle was used.

To drive the wheels with Cox are not so fast, need special Cox flywheel with fan inside and it has wormwheel and give cooling to Cox engine.

Try drive the car with propellers, it is better and faster.;)

does this models has any controls on it? so in this engine i could not even put a servo to control the movement of an RC Plane or Car...[:o]

When i maked own car with Cox engine , i used 2 servo to control steering and brake. The engine can not regulate in trottle as i posted early, the exhaust throttle control can not be connected to servo, regulate rpm setting of you before use the model.

the green model plane has a thimble drome engine on it. the other 2 don't have markings on them I believe the green engine and the one attached to the right of it are .049 in size.. the bigger plane has a larger motor but no idea what the brand is. I am trying to restore them as they were my uncles. I got the green engine to start, and a slight start on the one next to it, but no luck with the larger engine. I used 1.5v to start the small engines... is the large engine the same?
also using 1/2A castor and 25% nitro fuel mix. Not sure it it is right either

Thanks so much for the info on my engines. I found a Fox .09 on the net.. looks just like what I have, just need to find out what the glow head voltage is, and what the fuel mix is as I am not gettting to to start yet.

The other motors are a Cox Thimble drome RR-1 and a Thimble drome not sure of the model

All the common glow plugs and glow heads use about 1.5 volts. There are a few plugs that will handle 2 volts without burning out, but not many. The Fox should run on 10-15% nitro and a minimum of 20% castor oil fuel. The 09 is not a great running or powerful engine.
The Cox engines are the RR-1 and a common Babe Bee 049.
