Thrust of a Saito 72

I need some help. Might anyone know the amount of thrust a Saito 72 would produce with a 12x8 or 13x6 prop on something like 25% nitro. Means the prop would be turning at about 10,500 RPM. Thanks!

Sorry I can't provide you with exact numbers, but my Saito 72 on 15% turns an APC 13 x 6 @ 10200 Rpm (10500 peaked). It will pull a 6 lb aircraft vertical, but runs out of steam on a 7 lb'er.

Hope this gives you some idea?

Happy Fly'n...

Like Pepe I cant give you the numbers. I run 15% through mine with a 13x4W APC prop. It will hover at 1/2 throttle a 5lbs plane. If you want spedd the 13x6 APC is better. From a strictly thrust standpoint I think the 13X4W is the right prop.

I think the above answers are all I need. Thanks a lot guys. I got the Fliton Extra 330 and the plane is a big 40 sized plane, AUW is only 6 lbs but with the Saito 72 I should be able to get it down to 5.75 lbs and was wondering if I would have enough power to get her to have very decent verticals. Guess, I will have enough on a 13x6 with 25% heli fuel. Again, thanks a lot for the info.

tIANci, I think you will find the verticle better with the 13x4W APC. You might also try a 14x4W apc and a 14x4 Zinger. My .72's need 30% to have good spool up with the 14x4W. Your 25% should be as good. The spool up is even better with the Zinger. As far as pull I would put the Zinger in between the two APCs I mentioned. I can't run the Zinger for ground clearance reasons.

Dave ... Zingers are not easily available in Malaysia, sad huh? Neither are APC 4 pitch or W blades. Very sad state of affairs. I think I will go for the APC 13x6 or 12x8. Not into 3D for the Fliton Extra but am going to have her for pattern/aerobatic flying. Thanks for the advice.

Recently I set-up a Saito 72 on a friends airplane with 15% nitro and 13x6 APC, with a accurate digital fishscale we got 7.5 lbs of thrust.

ah the raw numers are in, cool. Then I'd say keep the plane at or under 5 lbs for any 3D. The fuel is going to weigh almost a pound so you will be close to 6 lbs flying. So that's a 1.25 thrust to weight ratio. Not bad. Go with some 25-30% heli and that might get up to 1.33.

You guys are great, thanks for the info. Joe ... I am not going to 3D, I somehow don't feel comfy to 3D that sort of a plane, my TT Spirit does a brilliant job for 3D. Thanks again guys!!!
