Which Gas Engine
I am assembling an Ohio RC Super Chipmunk and am undecided as to which engine to use. I am looking at Saito 180 if I go with glow or a G38 or an RCS 1.8 if I go with gas. Any thoughts?

Which gas engine
I personally like the RCS 1.8 gas engine, as is one of the lightest, puts out great power and has very good resale value should you ever decide to sell. I plan to install the 1.4 RCS in my 4*120 which is on the building board as a winter project.

Which Gas Engine
You might consider the Moki 2.1......unbelievable engine....read recent reviews. Love them....

G38
Before the Ohio Site went kaput, a look at the info on this kit showed that the G38 was probably the most popular engine for this kit. It is a trouble free, good running, long lasting engine for that plane. I've seen several of them with the G38 and they fly very well. On of the guys in the Cane Ridge club in Nashville has one with the G38 and smoke. A really nice looking and nice flying plane. Big old smooth loops with smoke on look very scale. Just a neat combo.
Nothing wrong with the Saito 180, but it won't power up with the G38, and It LOVES high-dollar, high-nitro fuel. I've seen several of the RCS 140's flying and they are a sweet little engine. Haven't seen a 180 yet. But a good used G38 can be had with muff and mount for around $200, and it runs all day on $1-$2 worth of unleaded mix. |
Which Gas Engine
The RCS 1.8 is very heavy for its size. Why not go with the ZDZ 40. They weigh about the same.
