What engine to buy?
 

I am fairly new to flying and have just started my first balsa wood plane. Its a 35 year old B-26 invader U-control that my grandpa started building in Vietnam. I am converting it from u-control to rc. its approx 43 in long with 55 in wings tip to tip. I am guessing its a 1/10 scale and I was considering the cox LA .40. Is this to big and if not which prop should i use (I want a 3 bladded prop).

First of all welcome to the hobby but make sure you enter from the main door.

The project you undertook to finish is definitely not the right way to learn flying. Flying is a different story from building.

Start with a trainer, find somebody at a club to teach you flying and when you feel ready try your grandfather's scale plane.

Remember you need many flights on your own in order to be ready for a scale plane.

As far as engine size I think you will need 0,30- 0.40 cubic inches size.

Like Stelios said. Buy an ARF trainer to learn to fly. Also you cn use the trainer as an example to learn how to hook up the controls.

I'd finish up Grandpa's plane....and hang it up on the wall in the garage
for your son to enjoy....(keep it whole)....

....once you smash it to bits, it's toast. :eek:

You can get a nice trainer for about 80 bucks. ;)
