pitts muffler fix
Hey I have a pitts muffler that has one of the outlet pipe that has a broken weld. is it possible to to fix that? if so how?
thanks |
RE: pitts muffler fix
Just get it re-welded at a local welding shop. Even small towns normally have a couple. Clean it up real good before taking it to a welder.

RE: pitts muffler fix
Mountain, I am using JB weld on one now that seems to be holding up ok for now. If I were you I would use a dremel and skuff up the area around the weld and clean thoroughly and use the JB Weld. Use some acetone to clean the area thouroughly to get the oil off or the JB will not hold at all. The cost some of these welding shops charge would make it almost as cheap to just buy another one new.

RE: pitts muffler fix
I have had a couple of broken pipes (broken loose at the body of the mufflers) on Bisson Pitts mufflers and have taken them to a local welding shop.
The turn around was a few days, the fix is permanent and the cost was $15.00 each instance. Now if I could only remember to check those mounting screws...... |
RE: pitts muffler fix
Does anyone know where I can get a Bennetts pitts muffler spare pipe. I know it could be welded but I got the screwed in part out and would prefer to screw one back in; assuming I can find the pipe. Muffler was on a Zenoah G38

RE: pitts muffler fix
I had a Slimline pitts on a YS 140 that had broken pipes right where yours did and used J&B Weld to fix it several times. It didn't take long for the J&B to give up the ghost. You can try aluminum brazing rod with a propane or mapp torch to fix it. Sears and some hardware stores sell it. I've even seen it at Home Depot. Other than that you just have to buy a new one. Next time cut the exhaust pipes shorter and use silicone extensions to get the gases out.

ORIGINAL: mountainroad Hey I have a pitts muffler that has one of the outlet pipe that has a broken weld. is it possible to to fix that? if so how? thanks ------------- Send the muffler back to the manufacturer. Most of the time they will fix it free, if you didn't cause the break. |
RE: pitts muffler fix
Thanks for the information. Probably will have to weld. Like you said either that or get a new one. Problem is I keep searching internet and cannot find the specific item Bennett Muffler/parts. Thought someone might know who to contact.
