4 Stroke vs. 2 Stroke Maintenance
I know that 4 stroke engines are a little more complicated than 2 strokes. How does this translate into maintenance requirements....does the 4 stroke need more TLC and if so...what would that be?

The four strokes have the valves that should be looked after.
What I'm seeing is that a lot of people are not looking after them and the will have something damaged about the valve train after several years use. They will drop a valve or have extensive wear about the cam and lifters. These problems appear to be from excessive valve clearance in the engines I have repaired. Enjoy, Jim |

It's not that much different. A valve adjustment from time to time (not everyday), and a good bit of oil at the end of the flying session and you're in good shape.

I've never, after many years of both 4 stroke and 2 stroke use, noticed any significant difference between 2 and 4 stroke maintenance. One wears out con rods and pistons and the other valves.
However, the 4 strokers seem to run longer than the 2 strokers to begin with, perhaps because of their natural lower rpm. 3dbob |
