Can anyone identify this engine?
1 Attachment(s)
I have recently started working with several older airplanes that were in my family, and I can't identify the maker of this engine. It's muffler is missing, hopefully some type of replacement would be available, otherwise I'll figure something else out. This is the only identifying mark on the whole engine except for "germany" on the other side. Can anyone identify this engine?

Rusty:
I have three of them. One NIB, one zero timed, the third is still a great engine. Not the power of a modern Schneurle ported 25, but still strong. The "HB" stands for Helmut Bernhardt, and as Jim said, parts and service are now from MECoA. Sad to say though, the stock mufflers are not currently available. The original part was held by a single screw in the middle of the exhaust port, you probably will have to use a "Strap On" muffler for that reason. Bill. |

Excellent engine. I believe they used PDP porting instead of Schnuerele.

HB .40's, .50's and .60's use the same bolt spacing as a K&B .61 muffler. In fact, they actually do use the K&B .61 muffler as stock. I can't help you with other sizes.

Dr1:
Some HB engines could be had with Perry Directional Porting (PDP), but they are all still loop scavenged. The PDP is additioinal to the regular system. ------------------ Ed C.: The HB engines up to the 0.25 used a muffler with a single central screw to hold it on - see the picture I posted of the one in the box. The dark spot on the muffler is the end of the screw. Bill. |
