Super Tigre question
Does anybody know where the factory setting for the low end setting is supposed to be?
I have a G45 that I bought from someone but he got the low end really messed up. Thanks Ray |
RE: Super Tigre question
There's only one good way to set a ST low end needle.
Place a short piece of fuel tubing on the inlet nipple. With the carb at idle, and the idle needle closed, blow through the tube. Hold the carb throat to your ear while slowly opening the low end needle. When you can JUST hear air blowing through, you're within 1/4 turn either way of the right setting. Dr.1 |

RE: Super Tigre question
Rotating the spraybar IS an option IF your engine has midrange problems. However, in all the STs I've owned, none ever did. Guess I was lucky.
The method I posted for tuning an ST carb is tried and proven in the field (not only by me, but by many others), and it works, every time. There may be other methods, but this is the one I know works, and the one I use. Dr.1 |
RE: Super Tigre question
Dear Ray, try my method, its simple:
Take the carb out from the motor, and look the carb from the lower part, with the rotor fully opened ,the slow speed needle should be exactly in the half portion of the slot (the slot that resembles an "eye" in format), so adjust with an screwdriver (opening or closing the needle) until reach this ideal position. mount the carb again, and this should give you a super smooth idle. Minor adjustments may be required given the fuel type and altitude, but this method work very well indeed, best wishes Carlo Brazil |
RE: Super Tigre question
Take the carb off? Simple? My method doesn't involve taking anything off that might not get put back on correctly.

ORIGINAL: ecrt123 Does anybody know where the factory setting for the low end setting is supposed to be? I have a G45 that I bought from someone but he got the low end really messed up. Thanks Ray ----------- The best setting is - where the engine runs best. There is no other answer. The reason I say this is because propeller size/model/composition, glow plug type, fuel composition, ambient weather conditions, etc., all make a difference as to how the engine will run at any setting, so there can be no specific setting given for a glow engine that will be universally correct. I am not trying to give you a hard time. I am trying to educate you a tad. In the end, you have to twist the screw and analyze the results. Two turns out is a good starting point on most engines. |

Rotating the spray bar has nothing to do with an intial setting. Maybe afterwards but that is not the original question here. |

Hi Col.
Hows things out West? |
RE: Super Tigre question
Even if the low speed needle is way off, the pinch test points you in the right direction if you don't have an extra piece of tubing handy to blow through.
Ray, do you know how to do the pinch test? Ernie |
