YS regulator mod
I have an old YS 80 ST heli engine that has a bad piston and I was thinking of removing the fuel regulator and machining a plate with a pressure nipple on it so I can mount it separately from an engine.
I'm thinking I could then use it with a check valve for any other engine like the Iron Bay or Cline regulators. Has anyone tried this before or does anyone have a picture of the inside or parts diagram of the Cline or Iron Bay regulators? I think that the Iron Bay and Cline are different from each other but I don't know how. Thanks for any info or tips. |
RE: YS regulator mod
The regulator on the Y-S is "Timed" by the crankshaft as well as being pulsed by the positive-negative pressure pulses inside the engine. This makes the regulator resposive to the engine speed. Therefore, it is a engine speed biased regulator.
The Cline and Iron Bay regulators are Demand regulators. They will not let any fuel through them unless there is a slight suction on the fuel line that goes to the needle valve. The Cline's operating mechanism is pure Walbro carb regulator stuff from a weed eater engine. The Iron Bay regulator uses a diaphragm to open a Shraeder valve like is in the valve stem of your car tire. Enjoy, Jim |
