28cc Weed wacker engine ????????
Hello everyone, I have aquired an "Eager Beaver" weed wacker engine. Has anyone ever built a plane for one of these engines? It is 28cc, I have no idea about HP. Can anyone pushe me in the right direction for designing a plane for this engine? What prop do you think it would spin? Anyone have any pics of a plane set up with a weed wacker engine??Thanks everyone!!!

28cc Weed wacker engine ????????
I'm only guessing here...
Being 1.71 cu.in. I'd say a .60 size aircraft-if you run it on gasoline. It may be possible to run it on low nitro 2-stroke glow fuel. You'd have to make a reducer to fit in the sparkplug hole then drill and tap the center for a glow plug. This may offer higher rpms. What about the carb???? Prop? I'll take a stab at a 15X6. I think it would be fun to play with and experiment. Remember: I'm only guessing! :) |
Thank you
Its just a fun side project, thanks for your response!

28cc Weed wacker engine ????????
I've run a couple of Maculloch 28cc weedwhacker conversions pretty extensively. It's a good engine for planes up to about 14~15 pounds and I'm going to say that you'll want a good 1500 sq inches of wing area.
My Macullochs love a 16x8 prop and will fly something like a quarter scale clipped wing cabin plane very realistically. I had the first one on a quarter scale Swick Taylorcraft and the second one went on my old Phaeton 90 bipe. You can see photos of both planes (RIP) on my webpages. |
