Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
I am new to the RC world. I just got a trainer plane almost complete and I have a used O.S. .46 LA series engine on the plane. I don't really know who to tune it at all, I have had it running but that is as far as it gets. I don't even know what screw does what! My engine is one of the LA series that has the needle up on the carb....if that makes any deference in explaining who to do work with engine.
Thanks for the help, Wayne M. |
RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
Hi Wayne, and welcome to the wonderful world (obsession?) of R/C planes! I guess the person you bought your engine from was not nice enough to include the engine manual. No problem, you can get it online from OS. Here's the link: http://www.osengines.com/manuals/40-46-65la-manual.pdf

Thanks for the help, I couldn't find it for some reason!

RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
No problem. You've got someone to help you learn to fly that new plane, right?

Ha Ha, what makes you worried? R U questioning my ability? ;) Yeah, I got some local flight club members that are willing to teach me when it gets warm enough...I just want it to be ready and I can't wait!

RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
Nope, nothing about ability. I recommend instruction to everyone that's learning. I also suggest limited use of the engine until you've got help. The main concerns are doing damage by running it too lean, or hurting yourself by not doing something right. But anyway, enjoy. This hobby is lots of fun.

I know, I got the engine running and I think that I got it about right. Just kidding about the ability thing though, I like to laugh!

RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
Wayne,
While you are at it, please do the break-in according to [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Tapered%2DBore_Engine_Break%2Din_%2D_Upgraded/m_1850473/tm.htm]this RCU thread[/link]. The OS manual is not detailed enough, to help you understand what you are doing. Tuning the idle/mid-range will just be futile, before break-in is completed. |
RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
Dar, he said it's a used engine. ;)

RE: Need Help Tuning An O.S. Engine
Thanks, Chuck.
Somehow, that 'used' passed by me, while I was looking the other way...[:o] Whenever I get an engine that is new to me, I at least test if it can hold peak without sagging. About 15 minutes on the bench will no doubt help Wayne master this engine, through fiddling, trial and error, Etc, more than will fumbling with it on the model. He is quite new to this. Welcome to RCU, Wayne! |
