TT 40GP problems
 

a friend of mine has an old TT 40 GP on a homemade airboat. it hasnt been run in a loooong time, maybe 10 years or so. Last weekend we started it up, it ran for about 30 seconds fine then just quit. it wouldn't start after that no matter what we tried. changed the plug, tried different glow igniters, primed it sufficiently and everything. the fuel wasn't bad because it's the fuel i've been using in my planes, and my .40la (which i hear is just the o.s. version of the 40gp - cheap bushed motor) ran fine 5 minutes later on that fuel. any ideas what could cause an engine to start up on the first flip, run for a few seconds, then just stop working altogether?

I have one.Is yours mounted inverted?It s nearly impossible not to be able to run this engine when mounted upright But inverted can have some problems.Pls. carefully check your glow driver first.Should be a strong one.Engine is great.

Hmmmm.....Let's see... "Engine fire...runs briefly then quits...." Engine not getting fuel!!!

Sitting for 10 years? You've got some crud in the carb..or maybe the 10 yr old fuel tank has issues?

The engine is burning off the prime and then is starved for fuel causing it to quit. Engine operation 101.

Clean the carb...replace the fuel lines (and maybe the whole tank) and try it again. My guess is that it ain't the plug. If the plug were bad..the engine wouldn't fire most likely. Same goes for the fuel.
