Stripped glow plug threads on engine head.
I have an engine with stripped threads in the glow plug socket. Is there such a thing as a repair kit for this? If so, where do I get one and do they work well.?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
RE: Stripped glow plug threads on engine head.
Send it to Clarence Lee. He will install a Heli Coil. I think it is something like $8 + shipping.
Clarence F. Lee MFG Co. 10112 Woodward Ave. Sunland, CA 91040 818-352-3766 this is not cost effective to do your self. The threads are 1/4"-32 which is a special size. You would have to special order a whole Helicoil set to get one coil. It would be cheaper to buy a new engine. Enjoy, Jim |

Jim is right on, except I think the price is $14.50. You pay to send the head to him and he ships it back at his expense. Mr Lee does outstanding work and you get it back in week or less. Can not beat the service or the repair.

RE: Stripped glow plug threads on engine head.
This comes up all the time the way to prevent this is start it by hand for at least 3 or 4 turns before applying the wrench if you cannot get your fingers around it too deep use a short poece of fuel tubing and start it in i with that martin

I actually acquired the engine after the damage was already done. I like your idea with the fuel tubing, I will definitely use it! "Thank you!"
