Thread Repair

I can not be the only one won needs to repair the threads on the glow plug hole in the head.
Is there a good way to repair the threads in the head?
I know you can re-tap them, but can you replace them?
Is there an insert on the market to fix them?

Please let me know if anybody does.

Thank you

RE: Thread Repair

Todd,

Welcome to RCU.

You can do a search about this subject within the Glow Engines forum.

It has been discussed several times lately.

A Heli-Coil will solve your problem, but the kit (for 10 repairs) is very expensive.
You need the 1/4-32 thread, which is rare UNEF. Another thread will not work!

Or if your engine is made by a 'normal' company (not OS, TT, Etc.) buying a new head will probably cost less...

Edit: Clarence Lee of RCM offers thread repair for a competitive price.

I think Mr Lee charges a whopping $14.50 to do the job. Just send him the head in a suitable envelop with a check or money order and he will have it back to you in a week or 10 days. See his ad in AMA magazine in the classified section.

Cheers,

Chip
