scimitar profile vs apc

I just bought a 14-10 master airscrew scimitar profile for my ys 110. Up until now I have only used apc 14-10. this scimitar prop looks promising and it is 10 grams less weight than my apc, even though it is glassfilled composite. I`m not going to fly that particular engine in a while, because of other projects, so I seek people who have used these scimitar profile props, how are they compared to apc which seems to be a universal standard when it comes to props? I think it will spool up quicker than apc due to its less weight but I wonder how it will compare when it comes to top rpm, pull and speed?? I read a lot of the master airscrew k-series, both good and bad, but I can`t find much about this scimitar profile series. anyone???

I have a friend that uses them. He thinks they are great. They seem to be at least as good as the APC's

There are so many variables, you are just going to need to try one and find out.

Asmund,

The Scimitar Master Airscrew props are more effective than the black GFN props from the same company.
As far as performance goes, they offer slightly less load than APC props of the same sizes.

This higher RPM will give them about the same thrust as the APC.

They are, however, more RPM limited than APC.
The RPM limit given by MA is 160,000/diameter, while APC are limited to 190,000/diameter RPM.

Also, their hub thickness is MUCH greater than same-size APC props, making them unusable in some situation where an APC can easily be used.

Im using one on a piped 108, plenty of load and very quiet.

When you smack asphalt or dirt you will appreciate the Master Airscrew a whole lot more. They will break but not as easy as APC

I like the scimitar series more than APC, they are more scrap resistant:) as speedster mentions and are lighter than apc's I specially like them for smaller engines (.91 and below).
Dar, I believe you're mistaken the scimitar's hub is thinner (APC is thicker) and the root? of the blades also is thinner than the APC which makes it easier to fit in standard spinner openings. APC's requeire more extensive changes of the spinner to fit

Patrick,

Looking at one specific size, the 12x8, it was not possible to properly tighten the prop nut with the MA Scimitar and a spinner, due to insufficient thread engagement, on an MVVS .77 engine.
On the APC, it was a piece of cake.

Maybe you are right about other sizes, however.

I have no doubt as to the modifications needed by the spinner cone, for the APC to fit.

The MA 14-10 Scimitar has slightly less load than the APC 14-10 and will be too small for the YS 110. My YS .91AC's spin the 14-10 Scimitar at 9600 rpm peak on 20/20 fuel.

By the way, the MA 14x10 Scimitar is a pretty fast and efficient prop, a perfect prop for the YS 91.

ok I will give it a try next time I fire up my 110. I spin the apc 14-10 at 9500 peak when running my usual 15%, so 9700 or so on the scimitar would be ok don`t you think?

9700 rpm would be OK. However, I have a feeling you will be way above 10K rpm.
