3.5 K&B

I finally got my gold carb for my outboard K&B motor. I was just looking for some tunning advice because I'm not real good at it plus this is a brand new carb. What tempter should it run at and what is a good way to take temperature. I watch my buddy always checking the temp on his RC car which looks easyer than my boat because of the head.

Ryan,

I believe you engine has a water cooling head, which cold water running through it, impelled by the prop.

I believe that even with an air-cooled engine, the remotely measured temperature is not only inaccurate, but also only remotely related to the average temperature of the cylinder head's internal surface...
It also very dependent on the exact point, to which you aim your thermometer...

Engines ran and lasted long before the first remote model engine thermometer was invented.

Adjusting a model engine is done using your ears. The engine will audibly "tell" you if it is running very rich and cold, rich, just fine, lean, or very lean and hot. You must only learn to identify your engine's sound.

Using a remote thermometer is redundant and it will not help you, if you cannot identify the sounds without it.

Because of the cooling jacket that encapsulates your engine's head, any number that anyone gives you here, will be meaningless.

Dar,
The newer K&B 3.5 outboards are air cooled. I allways adjust by ear, and double check with a temp gun.:D

OK, David.

That is new to me.
So it is a marine version of the car engine?

I Still find the remote thermometers are of little value...

Dar,
I know they make a model of it aircooled. You maybe can get a watercooled version still, but there highout version is now aircooled with a gold head, and a little mufler.

My motor is water cooled which means there will always be variables such as water temperature. What about a good starting point for the carb?

Give a jingle to Mecoa, they are the manufacturer now.:D
