ID this FOX R/C Engine??

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone know what size this Fox engine is. It looks to be a little larger than a Fox .35 C/L engine I have. .36 or .40 maybe? Any guess of the age?
Thanks

Terry:

Might be a 36, but it's not the 40 - or at least not the original 40. That one used the 35 case with a longer stroke, the cylinder head had almost a 1/8" gap from the top of the cylinder, the longer cylinder liner held it up.

36 R/C from the very early 70's

There was a 29 also but I think it had 29 written on the side?

It could also be the .25 bushing R/C engine from around 72. We (wife and I) had one on her REM setup Falcon 56. Good engine.

Looking at the relative sizes of the glow plug and cylinder head I think Ed is probably right - a 25 engine.

Well, I also have a Fox .25 RC, looks very similar, but a good bit smaller. That one is Marked".25", on the case side, and inside the back cover.

Ed said 25, I latched onto that. It actually looks, considering the size of he plug, to have a cylinder head about the same size as my old OS 15 engines. Maybe it's a 15, possibly a 19.

If you pop the head and measure the bore and stroke all questions will go away.

It is a Fox 36.

Paul, I think you may be correct. Since it appears to have 29 burnished off the side, perhaps they stuffed .36 parts in it...IF, they use the same crankcase for both. I'm not sure if they did. I have a .25 of that vintage but nothing larger.

All of the 29s had 29 stamped on the top of the mounting lug. All of the others were 36s. The 25s didn't have the bulgy bypasses or the slanted glow plugs. This engine was supposed to be a plain bearing sport engine to replace the 36X. At the same time the 36X was to evolving into the new combat special.

It is a 1974 Fox 36 RC. The carburator and head style tie down the year. If it was a 29, it would have "29" stamped on top of the left mounting lug. Mr Motor is right.
