Removing the baffle in YS mufflers

Does it help?

I removed the baffle in my 110 plus i drilled the outlet a bit. It didn`t do alot difference but I gained about 200 rpm on top. It certainly didn`t hurt anything and the noise didn`t change much.

RE: Removing the baffle in YS mufflers

So what Amund is saying is that it doen't really change anything:eek:

No, joking aside, I've done some experimenting with and without baffles, mufflers etc on YS engines and I've come to the conclusion they run better, overal with a restrictive muffler pipe!
I do happen to have a small .91FZ (basically an an 1.10) that lost the rear rear end of the little YS muffler and the baffle.
I've fixed the end part... if you don't want the baffle, send it it me.... it was... I'm not joking... better with it.
When I say better I'm talking as a whole. A little quieter, a little better idle, just a touch better transition. Macro details that you miss.
Mind you, the engine and the standard muffler... it's just terrible, terrible, terrible when compared to the same engine on a long, restrictive, super quite Hatori muffler pipe.
Work that one out.

It`s quite safe to give it a try, if you don`t like it put the baffle back in. After all it just take a minute to do it;)

RE: Removing the baffle in YS mufflers

I never tried removing the baffle, but I've run my 91AC and my 110FZs both with the standard mufflers and with open YS exhaust pipes. The performance difference is minimal. With an open pipe they are louder, most noticably when on the ground (sounds like a Harley at idle). But if your field doesn't have noise restrictions it really isn't all that bad and sounds cool, especially on a warbird. A benefit of the open pipe is that you don't have a big muffler hanging out of the cowl, also they are very light and don't tend to loosen up. You can get YS open pipes from Central.
