Saito 82A engine question
I am building an ARF and am using a Saito 82A engine. I am familiar with YS and OS engines but this is my first Saito engine. My question is where does the muffler pressure connect to? There is a tap on the muffler, carb, and engine casing near the thrust. Saito didn't put in a plumbing diagram in there instructions and I am a little confused to the hose connections to the fuel tank and engine.

The tap on the carb is of course the fuel inlet. The tap on the muffler is for your tank pressure. The tap on the backof the crankcase is the crankcase vent. Connect a piece of tubing to this vent and then route it so that it can drain out of the cowl. This is to allow excess oil/fuel to drain out of the crankcase.

Hi Ken,
actually what is confusing is that the the nipple is on the bottom and towards the front of the crankcase just behind the front bearing. Is this still an overflow vent? Just trying to figure out if there is pressure here or just a vent. Thanks! |

Thanks. I forgot that the vent is forward on the Saito 82, but yes it is still the crankcase vent and needs to be plumbed the same way. Route a tube from the vent to outside the cowl. Ken |

Hello; I'm pretty sure Saito detail what to do with that nipple in the manual that comes with the engine. Every Saito I bought had an instruction sheet with it.

I checked the manual again and did find that they do explain the plumbing of the muffler pressure and carb lines on page 5, but do not reference the nipple on crankcase. For those of us very new to the Saito line this is could be very confusing. Having a OS's with standard muffler pressure and also YS's with pressurized fuel tanks this Saito (by looks only) falls in between the two. I have confirmed: muffler is vented to the fuel tank carb to fuel feed line crankcase nipple is just vented to outside of aircraft with shortest line possible not to exceed 6" Thanks guys |
