How To Best Mount Kill Switch Gasser??
 

In all articles and adds about gassers I see the need for a kill switch but no explination or what equipment used. Can anyone tell me the best method to put in a second kill switch hooked up to the radio transmitter. Is there a special switch and what is the best servo to use if any--standard or retract? This is my first gasser . Thanks for any info. Ruben :confused: :confused:

Ruben, just a std servo hooked up to a toggle switch with a 256 or 440 rod will work just fine. I'm assuming that you will also have a switch on the side, like the radio switch is, for the ignition kill? Just install another one inside that's hooked up to the same wires that go to the outside switch. A little soldering will be required, but it's not hard to do.

I'm not so sure a second switch is actually required, except in special circumstances....

I believe a second "method" of killing the engine is required, but not necessarily a switch.

Certain contests or field may require a "switch" in addition to the normal on/off switch. However, generally you are good if you can shut the engine off using carb cutoff (I use a setting on the transmitter, coupled with a switch setting on the Tx to engage that feature (much in the same way you'd use flaps), closing the carb, thus killing the engine).

On one of my gassers, I have an optical kill switch between the ignition battery and the ignition. The kill switch operates using a switch on the transmitter, and works to cut off the ingition voltage completely. The optical switch is made by Electro something...I'll look at it shortly and post where....

To answer, the only servo used in my scenario is the throttle servo. The optical switch needs no servo, and plugs directly into the receiver.

Danny and Sean, Thanks guys for the info. Plenty of information there for me to get the job done. I've mounted a US.41 in a GP Pitts Special ARF but haven't wired it up yet, but will have an outside switch in addition to whatever method I use to shut down with the Tx. To many other projects got in the way. Thanks again. Ruben :p

Hey Danny:

the thing most folks have problems with the first time out is noise. Just make sure you have 8" or so distance between any ignition component/engine and the radio system and you'll probably be fine in that area.

Non metallic everything on throttle....

I used a great Planes switch which has a slide switch and a micro switch for my Mustang 50 on a Lanier Giant Stinger. I used a FMA micro servo to operate the micro switch through a 12 inch piece of Laser rod.
