Stripped glowplug threads?

I can't find the post/thread that was looking for info about fixing stripped glowplug threads, so I figured this would be the best way to get the info to the poster. And it seems someone is looking for Clarence's address every couple of weeks..... ;)

so......................

He doesn't appear to have a website or email address. Not surprised.

He advertises in Model Airplane News in the Classifieds. He has two ads in there. One is for Lee Custom Engines and covers his K&B work. The other is STRIPPED GLOW-PLUG THREADS and gives sizes and prices. Both list the same contact information:

C.F.Lee Mfg.Co.
10112 Woodward Ave.
Sunland, CA 91040
(818)352-3766

BTW, it's an easy deal..... all he needs is the head so that's all you mail him. Matter of fact, he charges extra if you ship him the engine.

If you want to do it yourself, get a 1/4 x32 helicoil kit. Its expensive but it works.

He has a email address but does not use it. So I will respect his privacy. Can not beat the deal, I think it is $7.50 with the head and he will get it back to you inside a week of sending it. You can not buy a helicoil kit for that price and get guranteed service to boot.

Cheers,

Chip

Do you have a part number and source? I've spent days looking for this somewhat obsolete thread in a HELIcoil. I've found it in a REcoil and they work well but I'd still be interested in seeing it in a HeliCoil. I've heard of the 1/4x32 HeliCoil but am beginning to think it's like Sasquatch. It's turned into a quest to find them!

I tried to get some of those heli-coils awhile back....Napa Auto does not even
list them in their cataloges. I do not know if they exist. Doesn't Clarance Lee
use the metal insert type plug for repair ? This type of repair is better than a
Heli-coil anyway.

He could have had the inserts made for him.

Come on Dave, it's just money. The RC hobby has led me to the practice of stepping out on the front porch and throwing handfulls of money in the air, and letting the wind carry it away. I stay in practice that way.

Any good fastener store or jobber that caters to the industrial market will be able to order you a 1/4-32 helicoil kit, if they don't have one in stock.
Last time I asked about one, it was about $65.00, a couple years ago.

RE: Stripped glowplug threads?

Shhh. I have the tools and inserts to do this. And have done the repairs for clubmates and a LHS for years.
J.O. King co. has the stuff but they are still a bit spendy. Once you have the tap and intallation tool the inserts are pretty cheap. Clarence is the best deal going if you only are concerned about your one engine.
