What will be the next AX?

Assuming anyone around here cares, I was thinking about the OS 2-stroke line and I predict we'll see an AX .96 in early 2007. Where do you think the OS line is going?

Hmmm... Could be.... Why do you say a .96? Is there a rumor out?

Since Great Planes competes head to head with Horizon, I would guess Great Planes next offering would be "one better" than Horizon's current offering. Since that appears to be the Evolution 1.00 shouldn't the next OS be about a 1.04? You know, that little "extra kick" for airplanes calling for engines up to 1.00.

You think so? http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/thinking.jpg

They have the 91FX, and they have the 120 AX that "fits" where the 91FX does, and already having dropped the 108 I doubt that there is another engine in its class comming out again.

I also think that if your plane is a 60 size and it has a 91FX and needs an "extra kick", then maybe the airplane is too big/heavy already and it would be better to push it up a little and use a 120.

Maybe we'll see bigger engines, and why not? Maybe gassers! They already have a well stablished reputation, a good one I must add.

Just my $0.2 Mexican pesos ;)

RE: What will be the next AX?

I based my prediction on the assumption that the AX line will continue to gradually replace the FX line the way it replaced the SF line. Instead of another .91 in the AX form, I was thinking they might go just a big bigger, i.e., a .96 size.

BTW, does anyone know why they have both FX and AX lines? Am I wrong in thinking that the AX line is the newer replacement for the older FX series?

My guess would be an AX .75 and an AX .91 (or maybe even a 1.00), in the traditional .61 block size, replacing the FX .91. I think they will systematically consign the entire FX line to history.

Whatever it is, will cost more than it's worth which will then keep the Super Tiger folks employed. I don't think it would be a .75. That line is pointless since the .90s showed up. I don't even purchase .60s anymore.

To me it would seem to make a bit of sense to come out with something around the 1.8 area. The 160 is a good engine and the BGX3500 (2.13) is a heck of an engine. But again it will be pricey.

But then we have the good old 3250 and even with a replacement carb will come in an easy $100 under the rest of them.

They have a .25FX and a .32SX. What about a .25AX and a .36AX. Maybe a .28AX.

Ed, a .36 AX the size and weight of a .25 would sell pretty well, I think.
