Hi, i has received the old Moki glowplug engine.
The engine has "Moki 10 RC" in left side and "M5" in right side. Back cover has text "Made in Hungary", carburator are fastened with 2 lock screws in crankcase. This carburator are a twin needle carburator. The cylinder head are fastened with 8 screws. The piston has deflector and are fitted with a compression ring. Which period are the engine made? Check out "Just engines" in the UK. They are the dealer for that engine. It is a popular sport flyer/3D engine in the states. I am sure Just Engines can give you all the information you desire on that engine.

I didn't catch that the way it was meant. It looks to be a two-needle carburator. If I had it and it has good compression, I'd clean it up and run it. it's quite a find! CR |

Yesterday i cleaned the engine in antifreeze liquid and used tooth brush to remove rest of dirt of parts.
I discovered the engine was little used or maybe never used since holes in the lugs are clean and free for scratchs.. but the engine has been dismantled. I checked the ball bearings, they feel as new without hard points. :) The sleeve are made of steel with chrome layer inside and the piston are casted aluminium with deflector + piston ring. Compression are very good. The parts inside are clean and free for marks of worned surfaces, crankshaft are free for rust. I measured the bore and stroke: Bore: 24 mm Stroke: 22 mm Total volume: 9.95 cc Also not a long stroke engine. I learned out in forum for model engine collector which Moki it was, it is a Moki M5. Nothing about how old are the engine.. Jens Eirik |

Jens, I have a MOKI .51RC that also M5 under the exhaust port, it is physically smaller than yours, M5 must have been a series.

The case looks very similar to a K&B or a Veco 61. Having said that, Veco made a 45 too. Could the early Mokis be copies of those old Vecos?

He told this engine are named as Moki M5 10 cc and were made in 1970 and about 1400 were made. My engine number are 496 Jens, I have a MOKI .51RC that also M5 under the exhaust port, it is physically smaller than yours, M5 must have been a series. There are Moki M4 too.. Since i read here in RCU about replace piston ring where the steel sleeve need abrasive paper to make cross marks in surface to keep oil on place. These Moki engines with chrome plated sleeve can not be maked cross marks in surface since chrome are slippery than steel. :) |

Jens, I unpacked my MOKI .51rc and took a couple of pictures. I made a mistake on the # under the exhaust as you can see. This one has no numbers other than the ones you see.

I bought my .61 LongStroke about 5 years ago for 200 bucks, it was still sealed in its vacuum bag. It had been discontinued. It appears to have been re-released for 2007, that's good news.

I ran the MOKI .51rc a few minutes ago.
Fuel===Fox 5%/20% castor Fox idlebar plug MVVS 3245A muffler MVVS 7mm carb Bolly 11.5x5======12,550 rpm Bolly 10.5x6======12,890 rpm When I first posted that I got this engine, several folks said it was known for not having any power, that does not seem to be the case. It was rebuilt by the seller, the glaze was busted with a fine hone, it had nice barely visible crosshatch, and a new Frank Bowman ring. I think it runs pretty well for an engine with about one hour on it since a rebuild. |

Jens, I never had what I considered to be a very good muffler for the MOKI .61, I fixed that today. I made an adapter to put a Bisson .60 sized Sport Muffler on it. I cut an aluminum block from a piece of 1061 my nephew gave me. I have two siamesed 7/16th holes through the block for the exhaust flow. The block bolts to the engine with two countersunk M4x5/8 bolts. The muffler bolts to the adapter with the same size bolts.

I has new muffler with strap on band to my Moki M5, never used or mounted.
Not tried to run Moki M5 and measured rpm with miscellaneous propeller since the weather here are wet of rain.. Bolly 11.5x5======12,550 rpm Bolly 10.5x6======12,890 rpm See at the pic, not bad.. :) Jens Eirik |

But what a cow of an engine to strip. The wrist pin most definitely has to come out of that plug in the back of the crankcase and that took some struggling because it was a quite tight in the piston bores. With the crankshaft out I checked the front bearing and it was a smooth as silk but the rear bearing grated and ground so I figured I was up for a new bearing. But do you think I could get it out? No way...I tried everything up to and including making a special puller from a Dynabolt to lock into the inner race. In desperation I dunked the crankcase and bearing in a warm solution of dishwashing powder and in about 1 minute the bearing was a smooth as the front bearing. It was only gummy castor after all :). The piston and ring looked very good but I can't say the same for the liner. It was about .5mm out of round with plier marks around the top land. No wonder it was tight coming out of the crankcase. Luckily the engine came with a spare piston/rod/liner assembly so that's now been fitted and with a little fuel it's got very nice compression (feels the same flicked in either direction too). Tomorrow I'll be doing some measuring of bore, stroke and timings to add to my list of engines. Jens...mine doesn't have any engine number like yours does. Edit to add..I just found some photos of another M5 but it's slightly different. There's no bridge in the exhaust port and the head appears to be cast instead of machined. Here's my Moki showing the very slight difference from Jen's, just the tapped hole in the exhaust and different drive washer. The photo with the head off is for those who've never seen a baffled piston before. The timing is quite modest, 70 for the exhaust, 60 for transfer, inlet opens at 45 ABDC and closes at 30ATDC but that's perfect for me because I want to try it in a CL stunter. Compression is 8:1 but that doesn't mean it'll need 40% nitro to get a decent run out of it :D.

I'm not sure anyone would suggest running 40% nitro in that engine.

:D I'm just having a go at those guys who try to run 15% in high compression engines and wonder why they have problems. I'll be using zero nitro, either an 80/20 or 75/25 all castor. The Moki is almost identical to my new Enya 60-IIIB with the exact same bore/stroke and cylinder timings. The only major difference is that the Moki's inlet port closes much earlier (35 degrees compared to 55) and the Enya has 9:1 compresssion.
