engine position at break in??

I will soon be breaking in my .80 Saito. In the plane it is mounted on it's side. Does anyone know for sure if there is a potential lubrication problem (mainly during break in), with the engine cylinder in the horizontal postion. Any benefits??? Should I mount it upright on a bench stand??? What do you experienced engine guys think? Thanks lownslo

Mounting position should not matter. The only problem might be (if you mount it inverted) is getting raw fuel in the combustion chamber and getting a fluid lock which could damage the connecting rod if you are using an electric starter. A side or upright mount should run and start the same.

Saito on side

Bob, I was looking at some of my Saito's and they have the crankcase vent mounted in such a way that lubrication should be the same upright or horizontal, and I've seen many Saito's running inverted just fine also. MY .80 is on a Kombat 60 from the Airplane Factory and sideways is the only way you can mount an engine on it. So it has spent most of it's life on its side.
