Webra 120
Flying the Webra 120 on my Dave Patrick Ultimate Bipe, and when it works, it's a dream. lately, though I've had trouble after the engine gets warm. On the ground, I've tuned it to where it seems perfect. Doing a pre-flight vertical, the engine sounds fine. After a few minutes, though, it gets lean. I've had the engine cut out several times either at the top of a humpty, or when coming out of a reverse cuban. Should I just start it fatter than I otherwise would have, knowing that it will lean to a better place? I have about 18-19 flights with the engine.

Are you sure this is not a cooling issue? Have you flown it W/O the cowl? Could also be the tank is to far back in the plane. Is it right against the firewall? If you were to do a fairly tight loop. Would it lean out then?

This is the common sign that your engine is over heating. I fly a Webra 1.20 on a Seagull SuperStar and the thing is a dream spinning an APC 17x4W at 10,400 rpm on 10% Powermaster. Yes, you should set it fatter on the ground, usually by 200-300 rpm, because they will peak out in the air. If you max peak the engine on the ground, it will be too lean in the air.

Thanks. I guess I just need to lean it out a little more. Sounded great on the ground, so I need a few clicks fatter. Not a problem, I think we've got plenty of power without getting maximum RPM. Tank placement should be OK, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Gotcha- in my mind, leaning out=richening up leaning in=making more lean.
Whatever the terminology, I need to turn the needle valve counter-clockwise, correct? |
