RE: Nitro Engine Pollution?

I aim the exhaust from ny test stand inti the woods behind my house hoping to kill some of the mosquitoes. Disapointgly, they seem to thrive on it.

Does hovering in one spot produce more exhaust than when moving?
No, same amount but it's not getting left behind so it looks like a lot. A couple of times when running an engine on the test stand I've plugged a radiator hose with a 90 degree bend over the muffler to get the exhaust out of the prop slip stream and it's amazing how much smoke there is.
Just as an experiment when breaking in this engine, I set up a bottle to collect the spent oil. The exhaust smoke was out of the slip stream. Around the middle of the video, and near the end the engine is at full power and the smoke is plenty thick.

Thats a great idea, did you use the oil to mix up some more fuel, or was it just to prevent a mess.
