Saito Overhaul?
 

Hi,

I am wondering what it would cost to overhaul a Saito 50 with a rod knock? How expensive are they to get repaired?

Horizon has been very helpful in repairing motors. The .91 4 stroke after a crash was less than $90.00. I would expect a very low cost they are a good supporter of their products. Send it to them they can give you an estimate. If it is under 3 yrs old it might be warranty. Jim

Hello; a new rod is about $18, bearings about $35, a new piston about $ 22. Not too much can go wrong beyond these parts. Try not to destroy the gaskets when you dissassemble the engine, if there are any. I take great satisfaction in bringing an ailing engine back to it's former sweetness. Another possibility is that one of the pushrods has slipped off its lifter. Mine did, after a crash.

Pull the valve covers (watch out for the gaskets (as Donkey Doctor suggests) and see if the lifters are seated OK.

If you decide to take the engine totally apart, you will need a timing tool. I can make one up for you for a couple of bucks and a SASE. I had to make one up for mine, and have some stock left over.
