Which 25 two stroke??
Hi all, I'm looking for a 25 to update my Shrike 10 size. Currently has a Magnum 15XL, flies good but I want more speed! [>:]
I had the new TT28 on order, but got tired of waiting. Currently I'm considering the OS FX25, maybe the Webra 25. Horizon makes it difficult to find out about the Webra, I couldn't find a muffler for it. Haven't considered a tuned pipe for it. I will move the firewall back and get the prop hub further back compared to stock. I want speed and low speed landing flare so the cg can't be any further forward than it is now. Any suggestions? Thanks, MikeB |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
The OS FX25 is one heck of a good engine

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
The Thunder Tiger Pro 25 is right there with the OS FX and costs less. Try the MVVS 28 if you can wait a little longer. Got to MVVS support, Dar Zeelon for where to purchase the little monster.....

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
The ASP/Magnum 25 is excelent engine.. scream good without mods, and if you do mods, will scream much more.. and they are very light engines. The ASP 46 of my brother is about 80 grams more lighter than OS 46FX... and is much more strong..

How about the Enya 25 with AAC construction?

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Thanks for the feedback. I checked out a few of the suggestions. I don't understand why some mfg/retailers make it difficult to get info. I couldn't find much on the Enya or Webra. Whatever Tower sells, lots of info- Kudos to Tower. The Magnum 28 and TT36 pro look good also. One other feature that is nice for a belly laner is an engine that will shut off when the throttle is closed. My Mag15 had this problem, I was able to take care of it. It would be nice to have it built in without having mods to do. So now I'm getting greedy, TT36 turning more prop, .6 oz heavier and a few dollars cheaper than 25 fx.
Thanks again, MikeB |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
As Brian said, the Enya's are sweet running engines, but they don't seem to have much support on this side of the pond... I don't know the weight difference between the .28 and the .36, but I flew a Magnum .28 on a Sig kadet trainer for a year or so as a "bang around fun plane". It didn't seem to lack much for power on that trainer, so it should make a missile out of a small shrike if the airframe can handle it. And as you said, it's nice to have all the info available about an engine. I love MVVS, Enya, and Webra engines but feel that there isn't a lot of presence for them in the U.S. I know I can get them, but it takes more effort, info is harder to find and you wonder if parts are going to be available, etc. I'm as guilty as anyone about being lazy and just saying, "I'll just order from Tower and it will be here soon, I know what I'm getting, and I can get parts quickly if need be. RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I had two OS-25 FX and you wont find a better engine of that size range, never had any problems at all, also have two OS-32SX engines that run very nice also without any problems at all.I have never run an enya but i have heard they are a really nice running engine also, the only way to tell if parts are available is to go a hobby store and ask them

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
First off how much nitro do you plan to throw at a 25? above 5-10% will take webra ,mvvs and enya off the list. Weight is a big factor- These choices are a little weaker but have a weight advantage..........OS25LA and TT GP25..............
|
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I use magnum 15% nitro fuel in my OS-25FX a great running fast and powerful engine that starts everytime
|
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I guess the MVVS line of engines is the most powerful and durable in their price class.
I made .25 prototypes for ACES combat, which are now factory made, and which I have in stock. If you are not confined by rules, take the .28 and let it scream. You will never look back. |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Hello
I have only been in this sport for several years now but i do not think i have heard of the MVVS line of engines, i have never flown an enya either but i heard they also were a nice engine, they still make them dont they. There are probably many engines that have come and gone that i have not yet heard of until you get a chance to talk to differnt guys and they bring up an engine i have not yet heard of, some times they make a really nice engine then take it off the line of production |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I was surfing around for a .25 size engine a while ago and ended up buying the Magnum 36 xls. It is almost as small and light as the 25 and turns MAS 9-6 at 15300 rpm. It sure made my .25 size Zero dogfighter ballistic, but still lands nice and easy

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Yes, magnum is a nice engine, some say they take a little time to break them in right but i have an os-160fx that i have been breaking in now for some time, they like to run rich and if you lean them to much they quit on you, i had a nice smoke trail with mine so i leaned the high end and only a slight turn at a time but it quit and come to find out it was the low end, still it is running rich but getting much better fuel milage and really runs so nice, still every now and again i will give it a click and it just keep's on running better, i think that most engines have there own way of breaking them in

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
But limiting the discussion to actual .25's, and not 36's, or 42's or 160's or anything else...
It's genuinely difficult to go wrong in this displacement range, as the .25's that are out there are all pretty decent. They're hardly all the same, but none are disappointing. If it weren't for my MVVS ACES .25's.....(which kick *****) I'd have to say the FOX .25BB is my personal, all time favorite. |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Glad you like my ACES "marriage of necessity"
Dar told me you liked it. |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
MVVS 28 set it up for the rear exhaust mini pipe and it will go!

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
ORIGINAL: downunder How about the Enya 25 with AAC construction? http://enya-engine.com/ListAP2CYL_E.html ---------------- I have a NIB Enya SS.25, but I don't remember it having the AAC construction. If so, all the better. It's 111 outside (Fahrenheit) and has been really hot all summer, so no engine running or flying for me until things cool down. All I can say about the engine at this point is that it sure is pretty. <G> Ed Cregger |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
OK, who sells the MVVS here in the states or do I need to order elsewhere? I like the idea of rear exhaust if it isn't a maintanance nightmare. how much does it weigh with the rear muffler? Will the rear muffler interfere with fuel tank setup. What rpm will it spin a 9x6 prop, or is another prop better suited to it. Is there a link with all this info or can someone answer these ??.
Thanks all, MikeB |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Go over to the MVVS support forum and one of the support guys will sell you one. After the initial contact, do the rest of your business via PM or Email. Pé Reivers, Dar Zeelon, or David Moen can take care of you

RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Go to Pe' Reivers site....it's a good english language site, and has all sorts of info on it. www.mvvs.nl
The factory site, www.mvvs.cz is pretty nice too...if you can read Cesky. If not, you can still look at stuff. Heaven forbid though....don't discuss business. That's apparently reserved for other brands. |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I second the MVVS they are powerful and sweet running motors.
I have several of them myself and cannot complain a bit about them. They are powerhouses to say the least..... |
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
Who sells them and what sizes do they come in, thanks for the info.
|
RE: Which 25 two stroke??
I just took a look see at them and they do look really nice, is there a place in the states that carry this kind of an engine.
